Jordan West, Udodi Onwuzurike and Claire Seymour Produce Top NCAA Division 1 Performances at Stanford Invitational

Arkansas shot putter, Stanford sprinter and BYU 800-meter runner all achieve division’s elite marks, following five collegiate-leading distance efforts on first night in Palo Alto

PALO ALTO, Calif. – The top collegiate performances weren’t reserved for only the elite long distance races at the Stanford Invitational.

Stanford sprinter Udodi Onwuzurike, Arkansas shot putter Jordan West and Brigham Young middle-distance standout Claire Seymour all produced the top NCAA Division 1 marks this season at Cobb Track and Angell Field.

Onwuzurike, representing Nigeria, clocked a wind-legal 10.07 seconds in the men’s 100-meter dash Friday and added another victory Saturday in the 200 with a wind-aided 20.40 performance.

West opened his invitational shot put series Saturday with a 66-0.25 (20.12m) effort, as the Razorbacks took the top two spots, with Jamaican teammate Roje Stona achieving a second-round mark of 62-11.50 (19.19m).

Seymour, a sixth-year athlete who finished fourth Friday in the top section of the women’s 1,500 meters in 4:16.12, returned to win the elite 800 race Saturday in 2:01.96 for the third sub-2:02 performance in her career.

Ralford Mullings, an Arkansas sophomore representing Jamaica, won the invitational discus Friday with a fifth-round mark of 200-5 (61.09m) and the Razorbacks also secured victory in the 4x400 relay in 3:08.42.

Stanford’s Max McKhann supported Onwuzurike with a third-round performance of 216-11 (66.13m) to prevail in the invitational hammer throw.

Long Beach State’s Kash Powell, representing Australia, secured victory in the top section of the men’s 800 in 1:48.41.

Northern Colorado’s Jerome Campbell, representing Jamaica, edged Arkansas’ Matthew Lewis-Banks by a 13.90 to 13.91 margin in the 110-meter hurdles.

Cal State Fullerton’s Reyte Rash triumphed in the men’s 400 hurdles in 51.82, with the Titans also winning the 4x100 in 40.28.

Washington’s Jacob Englar cleared 17-6.50 (5.35m) on his second attempt to win the men’s pole vault.

Academy of Art’s Mathieu Tshani, representing France, rallied with a sixth-round performance of 51-10 (15.80m) to capture the invitational triple jump.

Air Force’s Joe Nizich won the invitational men’s javelin with a 213-foot throw (64.92m) in the third round.

Jason Smith, a Long Beach State graduate competing unattached, secured victory in the men’s long jump with a leap of 25-3.25 (7.70m).

Justin Lewis, an Arizona graduate competing unattached, won the men’s high jump with a 7-0.25 (2.14m) clearance, edging North Dakota’s Austin Wolf based on fewer attempts.

Japanese athlete Rikuya Ito triumphed in the men’s 400 in 46.45 and Guatemala’s Thelma Fuentes prevailed in the women’s invitational triple jump with a 44-foot (13.41m) performance.

Canadian competitor Astrid Nyame, competing unattached, ran a lifetime-best to win the women’s 100 hurdles in 13.12.

Simon Fraser’s Marie-Eloise LeClair edged Stanford’s Alexa Rossum by an 11.443 to 11.449 margin in the women’s 100 final.

Rossum prevailed in the women’s 200 in 23.61, with teammate Maya Valmon taking second in 23.77.

Stanford also earned wins in the 4x100 (44.57) and 4x400 (3:31.64), with Alyssa Jones contributing to the 4x100, in addition to capturing the invitational long jump with a leap of 21-0.50 (6.41m) and placing second in the high jump at 5-9.25 (1.76m).

Utah’s Josefine Eriksen, representing Norway, triumphed in the women’s 400 in 53.41, with Stanford’s Juliette Whittaker placing second in 53.74.

Chico State’s Chloe Taylor clocked a personal-best 1:00.21 to triumph in the women’s 400 hurdles.

Hawaii grabbed a pair of field-event victories, with Lilian Turban clearing 5-11.50 (1.82m) in the high jump and Hallee Mohr throwing the discus 165-8 (50.49m).

Washington’s Nastassja Campbell cleared 13-8.25 (4.17m) in the women’s pole vault, prevailing against teammate Sara Borton and San Jose Track Club athlete Jathiyah Muhammad based on fewer attempts.

Oregon’s Jaida Ross and Mine De Klerk, representing South Africa, took the top two spots in the invitational shot put.

Ross triumphed with a mark of 56-8.75 (17.29m) and De Klerk produced a 51-8.50 (15.76m) effort.

Wisconsin’s Chloe Lindeman secured victory in the invitational hammer throw with a fifth-round performance of 208-6 (63.56m) and Utah State’s Valerie Clark produced an effort of 152-11 (46.60m) to take the invitational javelin competition.

Washington’s Ida Eikeng, representing Norway, won the collegiate javelin section with a throw of 156-5 (47.69m).
